general map of cycling tours on Rhine and Lahn
Thanks to its diverse 322 km, the Rhine cycling trail, certified as premium route, counts among the most popular routes in Germany.
The Rhine valley between Rüdesheim and Unkel as well as between Bingen and Remagen is just perfect to pedal along its riversides and side valleys.
The 65-km-long UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley between Bingen and Koblenz is particularly famous for its small medieval towns, the legendary Loreley rock, and the approx. 30 castles – that rise on average every two kilometers above the river.
Length and duration of your tour can be arranged flexibly. Thanks to the good railway connection on both riversides, you can choose your starting point freely, or take one of the boats.
The Lahn belongs to those rivers in Germany whose natural state has been preserved. On its way from the spring to its mouth into the Rhine, it loops through almost untouched nature. The Rhineland-Palatinate trail section offers diverse landscapes with steep, forested slopes and smooth hills. In this area, the windings of the Lahn between Diez and Lahnstein count among the landscape highlights.
As a river route, the Lahn cycling trail, with a total of 245 km between spring and mouth, runs mostly along the riverside with many narrow passages. Thanks to its rather moderate gradients, it is perfectly suited for families with children.
